cats and dogs

Absolutely pouring down all day today.  True British weather we're having.

bokehlicious accident

Image
Sometimes I get a roll back from the lab, and I just spend the first 15 minutes laughing.  Technical errors, over exposure, framing mistakes and what have you.  This hobby is 50% comedy I tell you.

blast from the past

Image
Westgate, Canterbury.  To the left there once was a kebab shop that housed the world's most acidic chilli sauce.  True story!

more trees

Image
My obsession with trees deepens every day.  Particularly fascinated am I by the juxtaposition of trees and old architecture.  I spend long moments just starring at stuff like this.  Fortunately enough, there is a cafe opposite this exquisite view that let me appear less insane.

alley cat

Image
I saw a black cat in an alley .  It posed gracefully for a portrait.  It then attacked me like I was an unwanted paparazzo.   Cats.  So capricious.

do you want to see one million?

Image
You see a lot of street art and artists in Shoreditch and Hackney.  If you're in the area a lot like I am, you can become a bit jaded by it all.  You start to perceive some really awesome street art as just the ambience of the place - unfortunate, this. Until, that is, you are abruptly interrupted by something truly spectacular.  Such is this magnificent piece by Roger Molloy .  This is a print of one million one dollar signs ($) which is more remarkable than it seems when you consider it is an analogue print!  That is, it was printed in the dark room and not on an inkjet printer. I'm honoured to believe this was the first analogue shot of this work, as commented by Roger himself, after I uttered ' dude! how expensive was this to make? '.   Watch Roger's video

bit of a blur

This is me this morning.

polite notice

There, we said it.

longer days are coming

Image
To the delight of photographers the nation over, daylight has hit the 5.30 pm mark.  This means  lower ISO photos.  Oh joy!

tunnel vision

Image
Emerging from the cloudy uncertainty of yesterday, today I've got the tunnel vision of an eagle, with my goal sharply in focus.

a shadowy reflective day

Image
This sums up today perfectly.  Bit moody, with scattered thoughts.  Occasional rays of light and bursts of inspiration shrouded by shadows of things left unsaid and undone.

sometimes art fades

Image
Sometimes other things in life take over, and art fades.  It fades, but is always there, enduring forever.

a taste of italy

Image
I love almost everything Italian.  I especially love Italian street food you can ironically eat indoors.

the morning after

Image
And here we are, it's the following day and the storm has subsided into a jovial wind while the clouds periodically part to let in glorious rays.

happy expensive flowers day everyone

Image
So it's Valentine's day.  It's red everywhere, there is a mad rush to grab red flowers (now of any kind) before they all sell out, and the weather is terrible.  Sort of a red rush hour. Perfect excuse to stay indoors eh?

history naturally

Image
Here surrounded by beautiful trees is the Natural History Museum.  If memory serves me well, this is where I got my first ever job as a student.  It was something menial, manual and paid minimum wage.  Happy days.

on old street

Image
It was a foggy day, it was a sunny day

open tower

Image
This is me, getting up close and personal with Tower Bridge.

the casa blue that's red

That paradox at the corner of Brick Lane and Bethnal Green Road is no more, for it has been replaced by a pub.

looking up in kensington

Image
So it's been a week now since the good dentist dug into my molar with his tool of torture, and the wound is well on its way to being totally healed. Conveniently enough, on the day, the sun was shinning gloriously over our ancient city - and I had an hour to burn before the appointment. Even more conveniently enough, I happened to be wielding my Soviet shooter in one hand. It was good times, that day. And my dentist, he's good people. And Kensington, that exquisite haven of incredible architecture, is good places. Every time I return to that part of town, I'm a tourist all over again. Ever looking up at the buildings and structures like I'm seeing them for the very first time.

the ice queen cometh

Image
It has been a mild winter so far in northern Europe.  As the Winter Olympics kick off in Russia, word is we are gearing up for a major blast of cold weather.  Honestly, I'm actually looking forward to some snow, should we be so lucky.

cool runnings

Image
Now hear this!  The Winter Olympics kick off in Sochi today. I am showing my full support for the Jamaican bobsleigh team ! And so will the good folk at the Jamaican High Commission in London. Fi real man, fi real!

sweet street music and a bit of magic

Image
The sweet caribbean steel band sound fills the air while a street magician sits on thin air.  Just another day in Kensington.

busted!

Image
Mystery of the Shoreditch shoe hangers resoundingly solved once and for all.  Or is it?

a little piece of heaven

Image
Words can't describe how good this little dessert was, and neither can I.

paradise interrupted

Image
Dental pain ruins a day like a massive light leak ruins a perfect picture.  It's paradise interrupted.

horatio

Image
As the sun comes out to play in London town, Lord Horatio Nelson stands magnificently on his column.

burning the midnight oil

So I finally started writing my book after much procrastination.  I have to say, I'm loving it.  I've always been nocturnal, me, but society has forced me into the daylight over the years.  I found myself pleasurably working deep into the night such that I had to actively instruct myself to go to bed.  Were it not for the dentist appointment in the morning, I may well have stayed up all night like the good old days.  And yes, that's a blue yeti .
